Want to know more? Talk to me (:

I was really set on quitting band. I swear that I was 100% sure of quitting band. But everyone knows that I am indecisive. And I know I’m nowhere as able as Xavier or Torrey, but I might still handle this whole ROTC and band thing. But I’m not sure yet. I’ve tried to get people to help me set my mind toward ROTC. Even many of the adults I know recommend it. I know that I want that scholarship, and I believe I have that chance to get it.
Now, it’s the stupidest thing to let Mr. J. Parker to talk to you. He’s pretty good at persuasion, I’ll admit that. Smart man. He found out from other people that I planned on quitting. But he did question me. He asked, do you love music? Do you still want to continue? He said: you’re an amazing player, Ray. You play flute and saxophone. I’ve seen you attempt clarinet and it’s not bad. You’re also a pianist. You’re a freak, and I mean that in a good way. I know that you’re getting yourself into JROTC, and you’re getting some major involvement in that unarmed drill team. Now, let me know if you want to become a naval officer, because I’ll understand if that is what you want to do. Do you know what you want to do in your life? I told him no. And he goes on. I know that you love that drill team, but realistically, how else is that going to be in your life? (Now here’s my favorite part.) Unless you’re planning to join a black fraternity and do a step team, then I’m not sure if you’ll continue that in your life. Look Ray, you can kick ass, and you’re a hell of a fine player. I believe that you have a good chance of becoming a music major if you wanted to. Now, Mr. Stonebarger helped me realize this as well. Like I said, you’re a freak. And after experiencing what you did in the musical, it really shows how good you are. It’s all up to you, but just consider things. I want to see your name on that marching band list. I need you on soprano and alto sax, man. You’ll be soloing, and senior year, I expect you to be on that podium. Just think about it, okay? Hey, and if you’re planning to be that naval officer, I respect you. You’re still my main man. Besides, you’d be able to get into any Navy, Army, Marine, or Air Force Band. If the military is your thing, go for it. And if you ever consider teaching, do it. I’ve seen you work with others. You’re very social, and a likable guy. You’re grades are good too, right? You’ve got it going for you. And I don’t say this to everybody. But the two people that I can see right now who can make it in this music industry are you and McSwain. I see a lot of potential in you two. Just think about it. I don’t desperately ask many people to stay in band.
My side of the story… I’m deeply stuck in this. But I have to make a decision now. I LOVE music, and I’m dedicated to ROTC. Even though I can combine the two in my career, it’s hard. They overlap here at Kinnick. To do something I love, or to do something I want. I’m really planning to be an excellent platoon leader for my junior year, then hopefully be CO or XO as a senior. I really want to keep the Red Devil unit strong. But at the same time, band is what I LOVE. Now, I wouldn’t believe Mr. Parker about that whole music major thing, but the thing is, it’s also Mr. Stonebarger who sees my potential. Two music majors that think I have a good shot? That’s something to consider. Besides, I have to admit, I like the spotlight. I love soloing. That’s who I am. And guaranteed to be the main drum major as a senior? I also love to lead. What do I have to lose? It’s just hard. I’ll have so much to commit to. Even with my AP courses coming up. And it’s even worse that I want to be class council president as well. I’m stuck.
My parents said they’ll try to have Parker to not commit me to so much in band, so that I can still make it big in ROTC. Not trying to brag or anything, but getting Distinguished Cadet meant a lot to me. I was so busy trying to do the best in both the band and ROTC program. And to have the honor of such an award, I feel like I have to uphold the values that everyone sees in me. And it’s true, I want to please everybody, and I don’t want to let anybody down. This decision is just really hard to make.

snoopdeer:

my friend lost his mobile the other day so i asked if he wanted me to phone him and he said it was on silent so there was no way of finding it and i said well if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it

he didn’t laugh and he didn’t find his phone

I need to set my priorities straight before I die next year.
